Slumping Kingyo Lose 6th Straight
Matsuyama starter Win Mercer pitched well against the Yamatokoriyama Kingyo at Kawauso Stadium. The right-hander led his team to a win, 5-4. Mercer, who is tied for 9th in the SL with a 4.8 K/9 rate, went the distance for Matsuyama. He gave up 4 runs on 11 hits. Matsuyama is now 57-42, Yamatokoriyama 47-51.

Up to bat in the bottom of the ninth, 22-year old right fielder Hiromu Okinaka had a chance to be the hero. Yamatokoriyama pitcher Charlie Geggus wanted to foil that plan. But with one out, Okinaka drew a walk, driving in 1 run. The Kawauso had themselves a thrilling win.

"We're in a funk and we need to shake ourselves out of it," said Yamatokoriyama manager Mike Mansell.
