The Yamatokoriyama Kingyo weathered an outstanding game by Kumamoto second baseman Kanbu Nakano to topple the Kuma, 6-5. Nakano went 4-5 with a double and 3 singles. Acacio Velásquez, the winning pitcher, is now 13-13. He went 9 innings, allowing 5 runs on 17 hits, while fanning 2 and walking 0. By defeating Kumamoto, the 6th-place Kingyo improved to 59-61.

Tsutomu Nagai came through for Yamatokoriyama when he hit a 2-run double in the bottom of the fifth. With runners on 1st and 3rd, he hit a two-strike fastball to center field, staking his team to a 6-5 lead.

"We take it day by day here," said Nagai, "and today was a good one for us."
