The Aomori Hotaru knocked off the Niigata Hakuchoh, 4-3, in Northern League action at Aomori Grounds. Aomori pitcher and Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, native Melquíades Nazario had an outstanding performance. Josh Shields earned the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 1.2 innings. His record is now 20-6. The Hotaru go to 62-42, putting them first in the Northern League.

The Hotaru got a clutch hit from second baseman Akihiro Kaneda. In the bottom of the tenth, he delivered a run-scoring single to win the game for the Hotaru.

"We made a couple of mistakes," said Niigata skipper Propercio Salazar, "and it cost us."
