Kumamoto Kuma starter Afrodisio Martínez pitched his team past the Kagoshima Teitoku, 4-1, in 10 innings. The defeat makes Kagoshima 58-52.

Kumamoto used the timely hitting of Fumihiko Shinad to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Kuma on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.

"Baseball is such a beautiful game," said Shinad. "Anything can happen on any night, and that's why you don't dwell on what happened yesterday. Just look forward and trust you're going to have positive results."
