Fans were not deterred by the threat of rain. They came to see their hometown Kagoshima Teitoku take on the Yamatokoriyama Kingyo.
Getting a good performance from first baseman Masaaki Hashimoto, the Yamatokoriyama Kingyo defeated the Kagoshima Teitoku, 8-3. Hashimoto was 1-3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 5 RBI and scoring once for the Kingyo. The winner was Cleto Villegas, who threw 98 pitches over 6.2 innings. The left-hander was charged with 3 runs on 7 hits.
The Kingyo benefited from a costly error in the top of the third. With Junro Arai at bat and Yamatokoriyama leading 1-0, the Kagoshima miscue allowed Yamatokoriyama to plate 1 and take the lead, 2-0.
"We had some nice at-bats at the right time," said Kingyo manager Mike Mansell.
Yamatokoriyama is second in the Southern League with a record of 68-54.
