The rain did not keep Merida and Maracaibo from finishing their game.

The Merida Caballeros got a marvelous performance from pitcher Rodulfo Vega. The left-hander kept the Maracaibo offense from ever getting much traction. The result was an impressive 5-2 Merida victory at Estadio de Maracaibo. Raúl Rodríguez closed the game out for Merida, earning his 1st save.

Merida used a well-timed hit by Jimeno Torres to capture the win. The second baseman socked a run-scoring double in the top of the first inning to put the Caballeros ahead, 1-0. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.

"I play this game for myself and my family, but of course it's always nice when we can win," said Vega.

The Independientes, at 62-53, have lost 4 in a row.
