It might have been a rain-shorted game, but the hometown crowd didn't seem to mind.

Serapión Chávez was instrumental in his team's 6-3 triumph over the Barquisimeto Crepusculares. The catcher was 2 for 2 with a double. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2 for the Merida Caballeros. Quilvio González, who leads the LO in quality starts with 23, was the winner. He's now 19-12. The loser was Ángel Novoa.

The Caballeros got a big hit from second baseman Jimeno Torres. Facing Barquisimeto pitcher Ángel Novoa in the bottom of the sixth, Torres pounded a 2-run double to right-center. His 21st double of the season put the Caballeros ahead, 6-3.

"It's nice to deliver when your team's counting on you," said Torres.

Merida is now 58-64.
