The stakes were high. Octavio Morales was ready.

The right-hander turned in a performance for the ages at The House of Sorrow, pitching a 9-inning, complete-game shutout to lead the Newport Pilot Whales to victory in Game 1 of the Division Series. Morales held the Templeton Red Onions to 6 hits and 2 walks, while striking out 8. The win got the best-of-7 series off to a good start for Newport, which now leads 1-0.

Morales pitched a complete game for Newport. The 25-year-old right-hander was charged with no runs on 6 hits. He struck out 8 during his 127-pitch performance.

"I thought Octavio threw the ball well across the board," said Newport manager Pablo Morales.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at The House of Sorrow in Templeton.
