Veracruz Hands Merida 13-5 Loss
|
Riding the 4-hit performance of third baseman Acón Gutiérrez, the Veracruz Vigias got a road win against the Merida Trovadores, 13-5, in Game 2 of the Serie Preliminar. Gutiérrez was 4 for 5 with 4 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2 for the Vigias, who now lead the best-of-5 series, 2 games to 0.
Veracruz relied on the hitting of Ronaldo Morales to pick up the win. The shortstop ripped a bases-clearing triple in the top of the eighth inning to put the Vigias on top, 8-1. For the game, Morales had 1 triple and 2 singles in 5 at-bats.
"It's a gut punch," Trovadores manager A.J. Foley said, "to get here and find ourselves down 0-2 in the blink of an eye."
Game 3 is scheduled for Tuesday at Parque de los Vigías in Veracruz.
