Mexicali Tops Nuevo Laredo Again, 6-5
The Mexicali Algodoneros moved to within one game of the Serie Eliminatoria, downing the Nuevo Laredo Colibris on the road at Estadio de Nuevo Laredo by a score of 6-5. Algodoneros right-hander Takeshi Funakoshi had a strong outing. He threw 9.0 innings of 7-hit ball. The win gives the Algodoneros a 2-0 advantage in the best-of-5 Serie Preliminar.

Luis Garay, who finished 2nd in the LN in slugging percentage with .498 last year, helped out the Mexicali cause in the top of the sixth inning with a 2-run triple. For the game, the shortstop was 1-5 with a triple. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.

"It wasn't our best performance," said Funakoshi, "but a win in the playoffs is nothing to sniff at."

Game 3 is scheduled for Wednesday at Estadio de Mexicali in Mexicali.
