Griswold Needs 12 Innings to Subdue Newport in Game 1
The Griswold Vampires took the first game of the Pennant Championship Series in dramatic fashion, topping the Newport Pilot Whales, 5-4, in an extra-inning walk-off win. Vampires right-hander Bernardo Carrillo threw 7.1 innings of 5-hit ball.

Batting in the bottom of the 12th, 30-year old second baseman Élouan Besson had a real shot to win the game. Newport pitcher José María López was determined not to let it happen. But with two outs, Besson hit a run-scoring single. The Vampires had a walk-off triumph.

"That was your kind of game, if you like high drama," said Vampires manager Eufemio Ahumada.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Playground of the Night's Children in Griswold.
