Rueda Blasts Pilot Whales, Gamblers Take Game 5, 8-6
The Manchester Gamblers defeated the Newport Pilot Whales, 8-6, in 12 innings in Game 5 of the Championship of New England. Making an impact was second baseman Pío Rueda, who went 2-2 with a home run. The win narrows Manchester's deficit in the series to 3-2.

The game was all tied up in the top of the 12th, until Rueda delivered big-time for Manchester, stroking a dramatic solo home run off Melquíades Ortiz. The game-changing hit put the Gamblers on top, 7-6.

"I hate extra innings," Manchester manager Eduardo Goto said. "It makes everyone more tired, wears out the bullpen, wears out the fans. Even winning doesn't make me feel good about it."

Game 6 is scheduled for Monday at Gamblers' Den in Manchester.
