The Las Tunas Escultores powered past the hometown Manzanillo Martenos, 7-6, in the opener of the Campeonato Interdivisional at Campo de los Martenos. Las Tunas shortstop Everardo Ríos was 3 for 4 with a triple and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for the hosts. The Escultores now lead the series 1-0.

Joshua Frostick drove in one run for Las Tunas. With one out and the game tied in the top of the eighth inning, Frostick had a clutch at-bat. Facing Manzanillo hurler Francisco Luna, he hit a sacrifice fly to give the Escultores a 6-5 lead.

"By the skin of our teeth, man," Frostick told the Las Tunas Gazette. "But hey, it still counts. A few more by the skin of our teeth is fine with me."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Campo de los Martenos in Manzanillo.
