The Maracaibo Independientes started the Serie Eliminatoria in style, winning on the road against the Maracay Jardineros at Jardines de Maracay by a score of 11-7 to take an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 series. Independientes right fielder Marcos Torres excelled. He was 3-5 with a double and 2 singles. He drove in 4 runs and scored once.

With the game tied, 5-5, in the top of the fifth, Torres had a key at-bat for Maracaibo. With the bases loaded, Torres hit a bases-clearing double off Reginaldo Alonso, making the score 8-5, Independientes.

"It's on me," said Jardineros manager Alberto Méndez. "The guys I sent out there today were the wrong ones for the situation. I'll be sure to send the right ones out next time."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Jardines de Maracay in Maracay.
