Escultores Heading to Campeonato Nacional de Cuba
|
The Campeonato de las Ligas didn't live up to the billing from those who thought it would be an all-out battle to the last game.
But the Las Tunas Escultores are no doubt pleased by the results, as they have knocked out the Holguin Pericos 4-2 to advance to the Campeonato Nacional de Cuba.
"It doesn't matter how you win it, as long as you win it and get yourself moving forward," said Escultores third baseman José Morales. "I know a lot of people thought this was going to be a really tight series the whole way through, but we're glad it didn't go right down to the wire."
Las Tunas won the final game by a score of 7-4 at Recinto Deportivo de Holguin.
Morales was named series MVP after hitting .440 with a .481 on-base percentage. He also had 0 home runs, drove in 8 RBI and scored 4 runs.
The Las Tunas Escultores will play against the Mayabeque Alacranes in the next round. Mayabeque won their series against the Santa Clara Leopardos 4 games to 0. The Campeonato Nacional de Cuba schedule will be announced after the Campeonato de las Ligas finishes.
