Petroleros Even With Atunes After Extra-Innings Win
|
Handed an opportunity to take a commanding lead in the Campeonato de las Ligas, the Cumana Atunes could not close the deal.
Game 4 went into extra frames and the Maturin Petroleros emerged victorious, taking a 10-inning, 8-5 win. Maturin pitcher Bryan Robinson threw 8.0 innings of 5-hit ball in the win at Parque de Cumana to drag the Petroleros back to parity. The clubs are now tied 2-2 in the best-of-7 series.
Maturin used the timely hitting of Édgar Flores to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Petroleros on top, 6-5. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"It feels good to get this one," Flores told the Maturin Herald.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Parque de Cumana in Cumana.
