Arthur Fleetwood and the Guayama Aprendices opened the Serie Interliga in brilliant fashion, traveling to Cidra and shutting out the host Sabaneros at Parquecito de Cidra, 9-0, to secure an important 1-0 lead in the best-of-3 series. Fleetwood, the Aprendices right-hander, threw 8.2 innings of shutout ball.

The Aprendices liked what they saw from Fleetwood. The 22-year- old pitcher had a commanding presence on the mound, limiting the Sabaneros to no runs on 6 hits over 8.2 innings, and striking out 6.

Said losing manager Tomás Guzmán: "The at-bats, obviously, needed to be better."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Parquecito de Cidra in Cidra.
