Konan Wray and the Cumana Atunes opened the Campeonato Nacional de Venezuela in brilliant fashion, traveling to Coro and shutting out the host Bizantinos at Estadio de Coro, 2-0, to secure an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Wray, the Atunes left-hander, threw 9.0 innings of shutout ball.

Wray excelled for Cumana, as he kept the Coro offense quiet. The left-hander went the distance, shutting out the Bizantinos on 6 hits.

"I'll be honest," said Wray. "I didn't have much left in the tank."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Estadio de Coro in Coro.
