El Campo de los Guajiros was the site of a true pitchers' duel.
The Pinar del Rio Guajiros were defeated, 2-0, by the Nueva Gerona Marmoleros at El Campo de los Guajiros, even though Héctor Arellano pitched well for Pinar del Rio. Evandro Martín got the win, improving to 1-1. He held the Guajiros to no runs on 6 hits over 6.2 innings, while striking out 4 and walking 2. The save went to Álvaro Salinas, his 3rd this season.
Nueva Gerona used the timely hitting of Ernesto Rocha to seize the win. The left fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Marmoleros on top, 2-0. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"You don't always need a lot of runs to win," said Rocha. "Sometimes you need just one or two."
With the loss, Pinar del Rio is 4-4.
