The Manzanillo Martenos topped the Las Tunas Escultores, 8-3, in Torneo Oriental action at Campo de los Martenos. The standout performance belonged to Manzanillo pitcher and Coamo, Puerto Rico, native Gabriel Ruiz. Manzanillo now sports a record of 30-14.

The Escultores had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Martenos going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the two-time All-Star Miqueas Velásquez came to the plate. Velásquez hit a 2-run home run on a 1-2 fastball from Las Tunas hurler Pedro Medina. It was Velásquez's 8th home run of the year.

Velásquez attributed the win to "everyone pulling their weight."
