Though the conditions were not ideal, the Cienfuegos Elefantes and Matanzas Henequeneros came back from a rain delay to finish their game.
Starting pitcher Jeffrey McCarthy was a major factor in the 3-1 Cienfuegos Elefantes triumph over the Matanzas Henequeneros. McCarthy, now 5-4, was the winner. In 9 innings, he gave up 8 hits, while striking out 5, walking 1, and allowing 1 run.
The Elefantes got a gift in the bottom of the fifth inning, when they were leading 1-0. With two out and the bases loaded, Heráclito Sosa reached on an error by the 2B, driving in 1 run. It made the score 2-0, Cienfuegos.
"I always intend to finish what I've started," said McCarthy.
The triumph puts Cienfuegos at 20-19 for the season.
