Hurler Hermógenes González gave the Cienfuegos Elefantes a solid start. The native of Santa Isabel, Guayama helped his team defeat the Artemisa Rojos, 3-2, at Campo de Artemisa. González, the winner, moves to 3-2. He threw 6 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 1 and giving up 3 walks. Adrián Alvarado, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 1st save.
Cienfuegos took advantage of an error in the top of the sixth inning. The game was tied, 0-0, when Zacarías Meza hit a 2-run single that was misplayed. It put the Elefantes in front, 2-0.
"Hermógenes had good stuff. When he did get into a compromising count, he made the most of it," said Cienfuegos manager Gustavo Boites.
Cienfuegos is third in the Torneo Occidental Matanzas with a record of 18-34.
