Cancio Compte, who is tied for 8th in the TORI with a 2.09 ERA, was terrific for the Guantanamo Cocoteros in his team's 9-1 triumph over the Trinidad Tabacaleros. His performance earned Compte rave reviews. Compte, the winner, moves to 4-1. He threw 7 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 4 and giving up 2 walks. Guantanamo is now 26-25. Trinidad is 20-29.
David Herrera was 1-3 with a walk for Guantanamo. The 23-year old right fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the third. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring walk off Casiodoro Herrera. It was his 7th walk of the season.
"What's not to like about a win?" said Herrera.
