Cienfuegos picked up a win at Estadio de Santa Clara, bumping off the Santa Clara Leopardos, 4-3. Pitcher Benjamin McDougall was a major reason the Elefantes emerged victorious. In 8.2 innings, McDougall surrendered 7 hits, while striking out 1 and walking 2. He allowed 3 runs. Rodrigo García collected save number 12.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Desiderio Quiñones? The 21-year old right fielder Quiñones stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the ninth inning to put Cienfuegos up, 4-1. For the game, he was 2 for 4, including 1 double and 1 single.
After the game, Quiñones refused to speak to a reporter for the Cienfuegos Daily. "You've accused me of throwing teammates under the bus," he said. "So, excuse me if I decline to answer your questions."
The Elefantes improved their record to 29-27 by beating Santa Clara.
