Monjes Grises Use Late Rally to Win
|
Fans were not deterred by the threat of rain. They came to see their hometown Holguin Pericos take on the Ciego de Avila Monjes Grises.
The Ciego de Avila Monjes Grises faced a tough opponent in Holguin pitcher Tomás Piñeda, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Recinto Deportivo de Holguin by a final score of 6-4. Piñeda went 6.1 innings and allowed 1 run. Héctor Montes closed out the game, earning his 7th save.
Ciego de Avila catcher Emanuel González produced at a critical juncture. It happened in the top of the ninth with Luis Martínez on the mound and Ciego de Avila leading 5-4. González drew a walk, driving in 1 run.
Ciego de Avila manager Hernán Leonardo attributed the win to "a little bit of this and a little bit of that."
Ciego de Avila is now 25-37, Holguin 28-32.
