The Santiago de Cuba Soneros weathered a fine game by Holguin center fielder Pablo Niño to upend the Pericos, 8-5, at Terreno de Soneros. Niño was 2-4 with 2 singles and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Mo Tuck went 8 innings, allowing 5 runs on 12 hits. The left-hander struck out 3 and walked 1. With the win, he ups his record to 12-7 this season. Manuel Zendejas recorded his 3rd save for Santiago de Cuba.

Tied up with the Pericos in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Soneros got a boost from second baseman Feliciano Rodríguez. With runners on 1st and 3rd, Rodríguez saw a 2-1 sinker from Lucio Colón and hit a run-scoring single to break the stalemate and put Santiago de Cuba on top, 2-1.

"The boys were really swinging the bats today," winning manager Hortensio Pérez said.

Santiago de Cuba, at 46-42, sits in first place in the Torneo Oriental Santiago de Cuba.
