Martenos Win with Late Rally
|
The Manzanillo Martenos picked up a win at Campo de los Martenos, knocking off the Trinidad Tabacaleros, 4-3, in 10 innings. On the mound for Manzanillo was right-hander Luis Rivera. He played a pivotal role in the triumph. The win makes Manzanillo 58-35.
Up to bat in the bottom of the tenth, Miqueas Velásquez wanted to seize the moment and deliver a clutch hit. Trinidad pitcher Casiodoro Herrera had other ideas. He wanted to end the Manzanillo rally. What happened next? With no outs, Velásquez hit a run-scoring single -- and the Martenos erupted in celebration.
"Whenever I help the team," said Velásquez, "I feel like I earned my paycheck."
