Guantanamo Upended, 8-1, by Ciego de Avila
|
Ciego de Avila beat Guantanamo in a rain-soaked ballgame.
The Ciego de Avila Monjes Grises locked up a win at El Monasterio, knocking off the Guantanamo Cocoteros, 8-1. On the mound for Ciego de Avila was left-hander Eppa Rixey. He played a major role in the triumph. Rixey, now 6-9, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 6, walking 0, and allowing 1 run.
Right Fielder Diego Valenzuela made an impact for Ciego de Avila, when he swatted a run-scoring triple off Normando Saravia in the bottom of the fourth. For the contest, Valenzuela was 2-3 with a triple. He scored 2 runs.
"I tried to mix it up, keep them off balance," said Rixey.
With the win, Ciego de Avila has a record of 38-58. Guantanamo falls to 43-53.
