Quetzales Get Past Merida, 4-3
|
Not everyone stuck through the 36-minute rain delay, but those who did went home happy.
The Chiapas Quetzales beat the Merida Trovadores, 4-3. Chiapas pitcher and Ponce, Puerto Rico, native Alberto Chávez led the way. Ladislao Esquerra earned the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The left-hander allowed 1 run on 1 hit in 2 innings. His record is now 5-3.
Chiapas took a 4-3 lead on Germán Gallegos's 12th double of the season. The 2-run double, which Gallegos hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Merida pitcher Omar Montenegro visibly frustrated.
In postgame comments, Gallegos told the Chiapas Today: "Do people still doubt I give 100 percent?"
With the win, the Quetzales have a record of 21-22.
