Veracruz Beats Ciudad Mexico, 5-2

Fans were not deterred by the threat of rain. They came to see their hometown Ciudad Mexico Volcanes take on the Veracruz Vigias.
Agapito Mendoza had a big hand in the 5-2 Veracruz triumph over Ciudad Mexico. He rattled off 3 hits in 5 at-bats, scoring 2 times and knocking in 2 runs. Rigoberto Mayorga got the win, improving to 5-2. He pitched 5.2 innings, giving up 8 hits and 1 run, while striking out 2 and walking 1. Zenón Pichardo earned the save for Veracruz, his 1st of the year.
The Veracruz win was a team effort. It included major contributions from, among others, Ronaldo Morales. In the top of the fourth, the Veracruz third baseman came to bat and hit a run-scoring single. It staked his team to a 2-1 lead.
"We played a good game and came out on top," said Mendoza.
Veracruz is now 33-35, while Ciudad Mexico is 41-25.
