Trovadores Hang 3-2 Loss on Quetzales
|
The Merida Trovadores earned a close win over the Chiapas Quetzales, thanks in part to Omar Montenegro. The Merida right-hander, who is tied for 5th in the LS in quality starts with 15, played a key role in the 3-2 victory. Montenegro yielded 2 runs over 8.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 7 hits, walked 3, and struck out 6. His record improves to 6-9. The 4th-place Trovadores bumped their record to 44-31.
Had Motoi Matsunaga not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Matsunaga hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Trovadores.
Afterward, Trovadores manager A.J. Foley was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
