Monterrey Cerveceros starter Constantino González hurled his team past the Culiacan Galanes, 4-1. Belasco Ortiz got the save, his 14th in 18 chances. Monterrey is 42-38 and Culiacan, with the loss, 40-39.
The game was at a stalemate until right fielder Fernando Santamaría came to bat in the top of the eighth. Facing Culiacan pitcher Dagoberto Hernández, he hit a 1-1 curveball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Monterrey on top, 2-1.
"The key for me has just been attacking the zone and hitting my spots. When I'm throwing strikes and not falling behind in counts, those are the days when I pitch really good," said González.
