Starting pitcher Gilberto Sánchez pitched well enough to help the Ciudad Juarez Nortenos beat the Tijuana Matadores, 4-3. The 4th-place Nortenos improved to 55-49.

In the bottom of the ninth, with no one out and the game tied, 3-3, 26-year old third baseman Pablo Salazar won it for Ciudad Juarez. With runners on 1st and 3rd, Salazar hit a 0-1 changeup from Ricardo Navarro for a run-scoring single, giving his team the 4-3 win.

"A confident pitcher is a dangerous thing," said Ciudad Juarez manager Eduardo Moreno. "That's what Gilberto is right now."
