Eager fans turned out for a matchup between the Michoacan Calaveras and Chiapas Quetzales.
Riding the 4-hit performance of the 23-year old first baseman Saúl Ramírez, the Michoacan Calaveras stopped the Chiapas Quetzales, 6-2, in 9 innings. Ambrosi Polo claimed the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 4.1 innings. His record stands at 6-1.
The Calaveras got a big boost from third baseman Basim Rafiq who had a run-scoring ground out in the top of the second inning off Quetzales hurler Alberto Chávez. It was his 27th RBI of the season and put Michoacan on top, 1-0.
"We'll put this win in the can," said Ramírez, "and then go after the next one."
The third-place Calaveras improved to 62-45.
