1913 is shaping up to be a forgettable year for the Hidalgo Cornicos.
The Veracruz Vigias topped the Hidalgo Cornicos, 3-1, in Sur action at Jardines de Pachuca. The game was highlighted by the performance of Veracruz pitcher Brodie Johnson. Johnson, now 10-6, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 1, walking 1, and allowing 1 run. Picking up his 20th save was 30-year old right-handed pitcher Neftalí Montes.
Ranulfo Carrasco, who finished 5th in the LS in home runs with 4 in 1905, drew 2 walks for Veracruz. In a tie game with one out in the top of the eighth, Carrasco came through with a run-scoring ground out. It put the Vigias in front, 2-1.
"It was just a matter of executing," said Veracruz manager Steve Cuff.
The first-place Vigias lifted their record to 64-43.
