Soggy conditions did not keep Culiacan and Mexicali from playing their scheduled game.
The Culiacan Galanes beat the Mexicali Algodoneros, 6-2, at Campo de los Galanes. Noé Velarde, who is tied for 8th in the LN in runs scored with 58, starred for Culiacan. He went 3-5 with a triple and a double, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 4. Dagoberto Hernández got the win, improving to 10-11. He held the Algodoneros to 1 run on 5 hits over 7.1 innings, while striking out 1 and walking 5.
Culiacan grabbed the momentum in the bottom of the fifth, when Velarde hit a run-scoring double off Gabriel Benites. His 16th double of the season put the Galanes out in front, 1-0.
Velarde called the win "a lesson in teamwork."
The 8th-place Galanes improved to 53-56.
