The Toluca Chorizos downed the Merida Trovadores, 4-1, at La Salchichera. Stellar pitching by Raimundo Magaña had a lot to do with it. The right-hander, who is a two-time All-Star, handcuffed his opponent all game. The winner was Magaña. He threw 7.0 innings of 4-hit ball. The loser was Anselmo Guaderrama. Aristarco Paredes recorded the save, his 12th.
The Chorizos got a big at-bat from second baseman Benjamín de la Torre. For the game, de la Torre went 1 for 3 with a double and a walk. In the bottom of the fifth, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring double. His 19th double of the season gave Toluca a 2-1 lead.
Magaña attributed the win to "everyone pulling their weight."
With the victory, the Chorizos upped their record to 62-51.
