It was almost a perfect day for Javier Martínez.

The Monterrey center fielder displayed a hot bat, enjoying an outstanding 5-hit day, but something was missing: The Cerveceros lost to the Nuevo Laredo Colibris, 9-3. Martínez told BNN reporters after the game that luck was "fickle."

Monterrey manager Anatolio Contreras told the beat writers otherwise.

"There was no luck today," the skipper said. "He got 5 hits because he has a solid approach to hitting and he put it all together, and we lost because the rest of us didn't put it together so well."

Javier Martínez singled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, doubled in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 6th and singled in the 8th.

This season, Martínez is hitting .271 with 127 hits, no home runs, 37 RBIs, scored 60 runs and played in 117 games.
