People outside the ballpark no doubt heard the roar of the crowd as the winning run crossed the plate.

Matías Flores, who is tied for 5th in the BFE&W in innings pitched with 34.0, had a strong outing for the Sheffield Talons against the Birmingham Tradesmen at Talons Grounds. The right-hander was a big part of his team's 4-3 win. Sheffield reliever Ismael González picked up the win to move to 1-0. Ramón Mairena suffered the loss.

The decisive blow was delivered in the bottom of the tenth when Osiris Álvarez hit a solo home run off 26-year old right-handed pitcher Ramón Mairena to win the game for Sheffield. The home crowd went wild.

Álvarez attributed the win to his team's "steely resolve."

The loss puts Birmingham at 7-8.
