The rain made it unbearable at times; nonetheless, the faithful who endured the elements enjoyed themselves.

Flaminio Martínez, who is tied for 8th in the BFE&W in innings pitched with 161.1, propelled his team to victory over the Bangor Bishops. The final score was 6-1, Newport. Martínez, now 8-10, was the winner. In 9 innings, he gave up 8 hits, while striking out 6, walking 1, and allowing 1 run.

Aristóteles Zamora had a timely hit in the bottom of the sixth inning. With one out and runners on 2nd and 3rd, the Newport designated hitter hit a 2-run single. That put the Stevedores in front, 3-1.

"It doesn't matter if you're 10 games over .500 or 10 games under, it feels good to win," Martínez told the Newport Daily News.
