Derby and Sheffield took Mother Nature's best shot and still managed to complete their ballgame.
The Derby Rams racked up a win at Derby Stadium, bumping off the Sheffield Talons, 7-2. Marcos Flores, who started for Derby, pitched effectively for his team. Flores, now 9-14, was the winner. In 7.2 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 5, walking 2, and allowing 2 runs.
Had Antenor Arguello not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Arguello hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Rams.
"Our guys are never satisfied," said Derby manager Stephen Withers.
Derby, at 74-52, is 2 games up in the Baseball Federation of England & Wales English Baseball Championship.
