Skidding Dragons Lose 6th Straight
|
In a low-scoring tilt between the Swansea Copper Lords and the Aberystwyth Dragons, Orestes Méndez, who is tied for 6th in the BFE&W in wins with 19, was the difference-maker. The Swansea right-hander spearheaded the 2-1 win. Méndez, who is tied for 3rd in the BFE&W in strikeouts with 230, went the distance for Swansea. He gave up 1 run on 9 hits. The Dragons, now 59-72, have lost 6 in a row.
The Copper Lords got a big boost from designated hitter Armando Saucedo who had a run-scoring walk in the bottom of the first inning off Dragons hurler Constancio Hernández. It was his 35th walk of the season and put Swansea on top, 1-0.
"The want-to is there for our guys," said Aberystwyth manager Aaron McMillan. "We'll get this thing turned around."
