Pérez Sends Matanzas Bats to Deep Freeze Friday, August 22nd , 1913 It wasn't easy but Felipe Pérez made it look that way. Pérez silenced the Matanzas Henequeneros, 1-0, in a Cienfuegos Elefantes triumph at Campo de Matanzas. Despite the appearance of dominance, Pérez said that he felt like he was struggling all game. He gave up 1 walk and 2 hits. "It didn't feel quite right today, but I made the decision to bear down and work through it," he said. "I made a few mistakes but it goes to show what you can do with grit and not much else." To date Pérez is 12-12 in 30 starts with a 2.00 ERA and has 89 strikeouts in 229.2 innings.
