Guantanamo Rookie Biggest Vote-Getter in TORI Monday, September 1st , 1913 Federico Celaya of the Guantanamo Cocoteros might be a newcomer to the league, but he definitely is a player. He proved it this month with an exceptional 3-2 won-lost mark and fine 2.72 ERA. For that outstanding performance Celaya was named the Torneo Oriental Rookie of the Month. In August he started 6 games, tossed 49.2 innings, yielded 47 base hits, fanned 17 and walked 24. Opposing hitters managed a .267 average against him. Celaya has made 32 starts this season, posting 9 wins and 16 losses. Opposing clubs are batting .257 against him and he has 84 strikeouts in 234 innings with a 2.85 ERA. |
