Rubio Tames Santa Clara Sunday, September 7th , 1913 The Santa Clara Leopardos were almost helpless in their 3-0 loss to the Pinar del Rio Guajiros and hurler Gedeón Rubio. Rubio kept the Leopardos confused all game, spinning a 3-hit shutout. "Tip your hat to Rubio," Santa Clara manager Héctor Montoya said in a postgame interview. "He kept us off balance all night." The 26-year-old right-hander had 5 walks and 3 strikeouts in a strong performance. "It just happened to be one of those games where even when I made mistakes, they either fouled them off or someone would make a fine defensive play," Rubio said.
