Monday, September 29th , 1913
René López may be retiring from professional baseball, but don't expect him to sit still.
The Las Tunas Escultores second baseman today announced that this season will be his last. But at age 38, he still has big plans for the future.
"I'm looking forward to traveling and seeing the world outside of Liga Profesional de Beisbol de Cuba parks. I also want to start taking up some new hobbies and maybe start up a new business, too," he said. "I'm going to enjoy my retirement."
In his career, López has accumulated a .236 batting average with 934 hits. His totals include 130 doubles, 28 triples, 12 home runs, 479 strikeouts, 362 runs scored, 414 RBIs and a lifetime .290 OBP.
