Algodoneros Win Serie Eliminatoria Sunday, September 7th , 1913 The fans in Mexicali are delirious, while there is little joy to be found in Jalisco. The Mexicali Algodoneros finished off the Jalisco Jinetes 2-1 in the deciding game of the Serie Eliminatoria played at Campo de Guadalajara. They took the series 4-3 and will now head to the Campeonato de las Ligas. For his standout play, Mexicali third baseman Acacio Peña was voted the series' Most Valuable Player. He batted .400, drove in 3 runs and scored 1 to lead his club to victory. "We could never really figure out how to pitch to Peña and that doomed us," said Jinetes manager Manuel Quiñones. "Hats off to Mexicali, though. That was a great series." The Campeonato de las Ligas matchups and schedule will be announced after the Serie Eliminatoria finishes.
