Boel Baffles Cardiff Batters Monday, August 18th , 1913 It wasn't easy but Jay Boel made it look that way. Boel silenced the Cardiff Arcadians, 1-0, in a Newport Stevedores triumph at Stevedores Stadium. Despite the appearance of dominance, Boel said that he felt like he was struggling all game. He gave up 2 walks and 5 hits. "It didn't feel quite right today, but I made the decision to bear down and work through it," he said. "I made a few mistakes but it goes to show what you can do with grit and not much else." This year, Boel has worked 200.1 innings with 99 strikeouts en route to a 4-18 record and a 4.22 ERA.
