Newport Takes Pennant Championship Series in Deciding Game Saturday, September 6th , 1913 It took a while, but the Newport Pilot Whales finally disposed of the Griswold Vampires 4-2 in the series clincher at Playground of the Night's Children. Winning the finale gave the Pilot Whales the series, 4-3. They will now advance to the Championship of New England. The Most Valuable Player Award went to Newport left fielder Derek Larkin. He batted .483 in the series, collecting 6 RBIs and scoring 4 runs. The Newport Pilot Whales will play against the Manchester Gamblers in the next round. Manchester won their series against the Auburn Cordwainers 4 games to 0. The Championship of New England schedule will be announced after the Pennant Championship Series finishes.
