It was as good as money in the bank when José Borges took the hill for Griswold. He paid his club back with interest this season with a superb 22-9 mark, collecting the Southern New England Association Tea Thrower for 1913.

The Vampires star delighted the hometown fans with a fine 2.11 ERA and 203 strikeouts in 286 innings. Borges surrendered 275 hits and 92 walks and limited opposing batters to a .259 batting average.

He received 24 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Octavio Morales of the Newport Pilot Whales finished second in voting, while Pablo Espinoza of the Templeton Red Onions finished third.
